World Information Society Day 2012

World Information Society Day 2012

Tomorrow, Thursday, 17 May is the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. Focusing on the importance of information society and the issues related to it, the World Telecommunication Day marks the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention and the creation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

This year’s Telecommunication and Information Society Day focuses on women and girls in ICT. Information and communication technology can help accelerate the achievement of gender equality, a basic human right under the United Nations Charter, and can provide new digital opportunities to end discrimination.
