Following the success of “Get Online Day 2010” when 68,000 people were reached, Telecentre Europe, a network dedicated to sharing knowledge and forming partnerships committed to increasing the impact of telecentres in Europe, is organizing a Europe wide campaign to get new computer users online.
“Get Online Week 2011” that will take place from 28 February to 5 March 2011 will be dedicated to getting people online, focusing on Europeans that have never accessed internet before, helping them to get through the doors of their local telecentres and enabling staff to build people’s confidence to move on into more structured learning.
The campaign focuses on raising awareness about the benefits of digital inclusion, as well as promoting and increasing the usage of telecentres across Europe. Participating in the project are telecentres, public authorities, public libraries, non-governmental companies and information and communication technology companies, as well as schools and students. In the weeks leading up to the “Get Online Week”, a range of events, training sessions and competitions will be organized that will highlight the essential role of information and communication technology skills in today’s society.
The event will be organized under the patronage of Neelie Kroes, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for the Digital Agenda. National partners that wish to participate in the event can do so by registering online by 31 January 2011.
